Beauty, sex, eating, love, aging, and grief—there’s a lot going on in a person’s body. Wendy Donawa and Laurie MacFayden join Debbie Bateman to muse on the temple of a female soul. Readings followed by a lively discussion moderated by Shannon Peck.
Debbie Bateman is a graduate of The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University. Her short stories and personal essays have appeared in literary journals and anthologies. Your Body Was Made for This is her first book. For her, stories are born in flesh and bone and vital organs. If they are any good, if they are alive at all, they must be felt in the nervous system and on the skin.
Wendy Donawa’s poems scrutinize time’s implacable flow: tough and lyrical, they chart the body in time, its mortality, its capricious heart. Peopled with casualties of colonizing desires, Our Bodies’ Unanswered Questions revises the gendered power of mythical, historical and personal narratives. She lives in Victoria, on unceded Songhees and Esquimalt lands. wendydonawa.com

In addition to three books of poetry published by Frontenac House, her work has appeared in Alberta Views, The New Quarterly, and FreeFall. Her debut collection, White Shirt, was a Lambda Literary Awards finalist. lauriemacfayden.com
